Buy an account or order a boost: how they differ
A boost works on the account you already have, to move its rank, wins or games. A bought account is a separate hand-leveled account that you take over and play yourself. They are different products with different rules, different protection and different risks.
Key facts
- A boost changes your own account. A bought account is a new account: you attach your own email and set a new password on first login, and the details we sent you stop working.
- The login details of an account appear under Profile > Order History after payment. A boost starts when a specialist is assigned and accepts the order.
- Riot's Terms of Service say you cannot sell, transfer or allow another person to access your account. This applies to buying and selling accounts as well as to boosting.
- Accounts have a 7-day warranty for an account that does not match its description, or access you lose for a reason that is not a publisher penalty. It does not cover a change of mind.
What each one is
A boost is an order that works on the account you already own. You choose a server, ranks, wins or games, and a specialist works towards that result, or plays beside you in a duo order.
A bought account is a separate account that already has what the listing says, for example a level, a rating and a starting record (a League account also comes with Blue Essence to buy champions). A real person leveled it by hand, in normal games, with no bots or scripts. You play it yourself, and a League account only works on the server it was created on.
Side by side
| Bought account | Boost | |
|---|---|---|
| Whose account | A separate account that becomes yours | Your own existing account |
| Who plays | You | Solo: a specialist. Duo: you, with a stronger player |
| When it starts | After payment, the login details appear in your order history | When a specialist is assigned and accepts the order |
| What you do first | Attach your own email and set a new password on first login | Choose the options in the calculator |
| What you get | What the listing says at delivery. Ratings such as MMR move with your results afterwards | A result on your own account, until your own play moves it |
| Protection | 7-day warranty (see below) | Refund Policy: full refund before it starts; while it is in progress, the part not delivered as store credit |
| The risk | Riot's Terms say you cannot sell, transfer or allow another person to access your account. A publisher penalty is not covered by the warranty | Solo matches what Riot calls rank manipulation. No provider can promise either will not be penalised |
What the 7-day warranty covers
If an account does not match its description within 7 days of delivery, we replace it, and if we cannot replace it, we refund the price you paid. The warranty also covers access you lose for a reason that is not a publisher penalty.
It does not cover a change of mind after delivery, and it does not cover a penalty from the publisher. The Refund Policy lists what else can be refunded.
The risk, said plainly
Riot's Terms of Service say you cannot share your account, or sell, transfer or allow any other person to access it. Buying a hand-leveled account is a different situation from handing your own account to someone, but both sit close to those rules, and what Riot does about them is Riot's decision. CarrotBoost cannot speak for Riot.
We say what the account has when we deliver it. We do not say how Riot will treat it later, because we cannot know.
No provider can promise that an account will not be penalised, and any service that does is selling you something. Read Riot's Terms of Service and ours before you order.
How to choose
- Choose a bought account if you want a fresh account with a set starting point, you will play it yourself, and you accept the risk above.
- Choose a boost if the account you care about is your own and the goal is its rank, its wins or its placement games.
- Choose coaching if you want to improve on your own account without anyone else playing it. See the guide on boosting and coaching.
- Check the server first: a League account only works on the server it was created on, so pick the one where you and your friends play.
