How Teamfight Tactics ranked works
In Teamfight Tactics you climb by earning League Points (LP) from where you finish in a lobby of eight. You promote when you hit 100 LP, there is no promotion series, and five placement matches set your start. This guide follows Riot's TFT ranked FAQ, read on 23 October 2026. Riot changes the rules between sets, so check its page for the current numbers.
Key facts
- You promote automatically once you hit 100 LP, and leftover LP carries over. Riot's example: Iron II with 90 LP gaining 30 LP becomes Iron I with 20 LP.
- There are no promotion series.
- Five placement matches. They cannot cost LP. New players start at Iron II.
- Only Master and above decay. Finishing 4th or higher can no longer lose LP, and 5th or lower can no longer gain LP.
Tiers
The ladder is Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Emerald, Diamond, Master, Grandmaster and Challenger. Riot's page says players in Iron through Master are no longer demoted in rank (since patch 11.22), while Grandmaster and Challenger still can be.
LP and promotion
Your finish in the lobby decides the LP. Riot's page says a player can no longer lose LP by finishing 4th or higher, and can no longer gain LP by finishing 5th or lower. It does not list an LP value for each place.
Once you hit 100 LP you promote to the next division, and the leftover LP carries over. There is no promotion series.
Placement matches
You get five placement matches. They have accelerated LP values and no LP loss, and Riot says you can gain up to 100 LP in one provisional match. New players start at Iron II, and returning players are placed between Iron II and Bronze IV depending on their previous rank.
Decay
You can bank up to 14 games, and one banked game is removed each day. Each day you play no game and have no banked game left, you lose the LP in the table. You cannot demote out of Master or Diamond through decay, and placement matches do not decay.
| Master | Grandmaster | Challenger | |
|---|---|---|---|
| LP lost per day without a banked game | 50 | 150 | 250 |
Double Up
Riot says Double Up players can enter ranked play as a pair no matter how high they climb. In the regular queue, Diamond and below can queue in parties of three with rank-based limits, while Master and above can only duo, and both players must be within 400 LP of each other.
